Singapore Project - A Case Study

MIES was commissioned to moved an incinerator assembly, with plant and ancillaries from the Midlands UK to the buyers premises in Singapore.

Description of the packages moved for this project:

  • 2 items (the largest over 4.5m high) / 123 tonnes / 305 cubic metres were shipped to Antwerp and from there transhipped to a conventional liner to Singapore.

  • 8 items / 2540 tonnes / 595 cubic metres of pipework, ducting, belting and other machinery was moved on 6 flat rack containers, all out of gauge, heavy and oversized.

  • 112 tonnes of machinery, parts and ancillaries moved in 14 containers.

  • In total - 1572 cubic metres of material was shipped, weighing in at 2775 metric tonnes.

  • The entire movement took just under 2 months from door to door.

  • Multiple modes of transport were used: low load trucks, modular bed trailers, coastal barge, breakbulk vessel, and a container vessel were combined to achieve cost efficient operational handling.

MIES worked closely with the clients own packers to coordinate this shipment, which was highly complex and required numerous different carriers and handling agents in order to successfully and safely complete the shipment.

The heaviest piece was the first to move and provided a challenge from the start, with lifting points at the bottom and 3 spreaders needed to complete all operations without a hitch. MIES provided a modular wafer bed trailer for this movement, with the heavy, 75t weight spread over 12 axles.

Next came the movement of loose items to our depot for lashing and securing to flat rack containers. The whole process was overseen by our marine surveyor at the port to make sure all items were safely secured for the journey by sea....

Meanwhile the largest pieces were moved by barge in Antwerp and transhipped early on a cold December morning to a breakbulk vessel.

Upon arrival in Singapore on board 2 different vessels, all items were unloaded at the docks and moved, by road and under police escort, to the final destination.

All finally unloaded at the receivers site along with 14 standard containers. In all this complex project was a huge success, and demonstrates the capabilities and skill of the of the project team at MIES. Heavy lift and outsized cargo is our business. Using extensive knowledge of local port infrastructure and carrier capabilities, large consignments such as this can be handled safely and with the needs of customer best served.

With the support of our unmatched level of technical knowledge and expertise, it is possible for our project customers to enjoy significant savings, along with the benefit of the most reliable methods of shipment.
